The trout are moving west and the Carr Dr. Canal is hot right now. Anglers are catching a healthy mix of speckled trout, redfish, and bass. The canal has a healthy supply of pogies and shrimp right now and the fish are feeding heavily. plastics are working well as the water temperatures spur the fish to feed more aggressively. Shu-Shu Marsh Minnow in the Gunmetal color on a 3/8 oz. jig head or under a cork or Matrix Shad in the Magneto color should yield fish in this area.
With water temperatures dipping into the 60's after this latest cold front, the train bridge in Slidell is finally producing speckled trout. Jig the pylons with Lemonhead Matrix on a 3/8 oz jighead or Shu-Shu Marshminnow in Chromis. Anglers are catching flounder also toward the northern half of the bridge. Tip your hook with dead shrimp to better your odds of catching flounder.
When it comes to catching speckled trout at the Trestles, It doesn’t take long for word to spread. This October left us with doubts as to whether or not the trout would even show up but with this latest cool front has seemed to do the trick.
